Optimizing the checkout flow
Overview
Every unnecessary click in the checkout costs conversions. This article shows the five steps of the Kyvento checkout from the customer's perspective – and which levers you can adjust to improve your conversion rate.
The five steps from the customer's perspective
- Product: product details, quantity selection, voucher entry ("Voucher code" + "Redeem") – alongside, the price summary is always visible with net amount, VAT, and total per billing interval.
- Details: customer type ("I am ordering as a private individual/company"), email, name, address – plus an optional newsletter opt-in.
- Payment: selection of the payment method from your activated payment options.
- Order summary: all details at a glance, the configured legal consents – and the legally compliant purchase button ("Order now with obligation to pay", Section 312j of the German Civil Code (BGB)).
- Confirmation: success page; if needed, Kyvento additionally redirects to your own target URL.
Levers for more conversions
- Trim down form fields: in the hosted pages settings, you control the visibility and required status of the fields – only ask for what you truly need for the contract and invoice.
- Limit customer types: if you sell to companies only, turn off the private customer path ("Sell to") – this removes the selection in the first form field.
- Offer a broad range of payment options: every additional relevant payment method lowers the drop-off rate in the payment step – see the "Invoices & Payments" category.
- Make trials visible: for trial products, the checkout currently shows 0.00 € and transparently indicates the date and amount of the first invoice – a strong argument that you should also use in your marketing.
- Use vouchers strategically: the voucher field is always present – communicate codes in campaigns instead of building permanent discounts into the price (see "Creating and managing discount codes").
- Design and trust: brand colors, your own domain, and complete legal texts remove the purchase barrier for the customer – see "White-label checkout: customizing the design" and "Using your own checkout domain".
After the purchase
When the order is completed, Kyvento automatically creates the customer, the subscription, and – depending on the product – the first invoice; the customer receives their documents by email. Via the redirect URLs (success/cancellation/error) you then bring the customer back to your own page – for example an onboarding or thank-you page.
Recommended quality check
- Run through the entire checkout yourself every month – on a smartphone, not just on the desktop.
- After product or price changes, review the product page of the checkout (description, tax breakdown, interval).
- Keep legal texts up to date – the linked terms and privacy policy URLs should always point to your live documents.
